"Happy Enough" is all you can ask for.
2010-08-27, 11:14 a.m.

I'm having sort of a "come to Jesus" episode today in which I am realizing something again that I knew all along but temporarily had forgotten. All anyone can and should expect in this life is to be "happy enough." To expect any more than that is foolish and to continue to search for it is to set yourself up for a lifetime of disappointment and loneliness. In the words of Minion-Marty: "Heather, the thing you gotta realize is that eventually everyone settles." Now that's not to say that greater degrees of happiness aren't possible in a sort of ebb and flow tidal motion throughout life, but the baseline... The starting point based on external circumstances is never going to be more than "happy enough." "Happy enough" is the brass ring of sorts when it comes to circumstance. The rest is up to the individual. Well, kind of... It's up to the individual and the circumstance that they've agreed to be a part of. Specifically, one could not pursue bits and pieces that make them happy if they are not compatible with the larger situation that they are a part of. Those things, that cannot be reconciled will have to be set aside and sacrificed to the baseline "happy enough" for the greater good purpose of not dipping below "happy enough" for selfish and short-sighted reasoning.

This kind of goes hand-in-hand with the "price of admission" entry that I made a couple of weeks ago. I'm too lazy to go back and look for the link just now. It's back there--I swear (check early August).

I'm thinking about unlocking this again. Outside of family, I don't give much of a damn who is reading. Fuck it all.
