C is for "Cripes, that's a big baby!!!"
2005-06-02, 10:56 a.m.

Oh my...
Well, let me first start by saying that at our doctor's appointment today (with the specialist--we got moved into an earlier appointment instead of tomorrow), he said that the kidneys were within the normal range and all other indicators didn't point to any problems. So that's very, very good news and exactly what we were, of course, hoping to hear but not really what I was expecting. As usual, I had all of the worst-case scenarios playing out in my head, but for now at least, everything is okay. Now back to your regularly scheduled freak-out...
OH MY GOODNESS!!!
Today's ultrasound estimates the Jack to be roughly 8 pounds already with 4 weeks to go. Now, you might say something like that most people go anywhere between 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after their due date, right? Okay, so let's say I've only got 2 more weeks. Our last ultrasound was 2 weeks ago at which time we were told that Jack was around 5 1/2 pounds which means that he gained over 2 pounds in the 2 weeks. So in another 2 weeks, at this rate, he could still be more than 10 pounds. I think, at this point, I'm going to discount all possibilities of giving birth naturally and just figure I'm going to end up with a C-section. Not really what I'd been hoping for, but unless I start feeling labor pains in the next week or so, I don't see how things are going to end up any other way. If not, it'll just be a bonus. However, this week is not so convenient given that my husband and my mother are both going to be out-of-state for 2 days coming up to help my brother move. Oy.
In the ultrasound today, they said that he's got hair! Yay for Jack!! Both my husband and I were nearly bald babies, so I'm kind of surprised about that, but at least I won't have to worry about his head getting fried in the sun, not that I'll be taking a newborn out in the sun much, but you get the point. They also said that he's making the practice-breathing motions--another good sign of a healthy baby! Obviously he has ample fat stores, so it sounds to me like he's good and ready to make his entrance into the world.
Waiting, waiting, waiting...
