Falsifying a good job
2006-07-21, 6:09 p.m.

This was a challenging week.

One of my friends went and got himself fired this week. It was the kind of fired, however, that wasn't instant. It was the kind where, well... he got sent home. Oh, okay, well, they suspended him. Day passes, day passes... Oh, he's really fired. It's kind of a complicated story and doesn't sound like a big deal to tell, but the bottom line and moral of the story is: Never find yourself in a situation where you can possibly be accused of having falsified data when you work in an industry such as ours (now, there's a sentence with google possibilities if I ever saw one). The part of the whole thing that's really maddening was the lack of information throughout the week. I totally understand management's need to be discreet and privacy issues and whatnot, but the rest of us are affected by "personnel issues" too. Finally, even when it was time for the news to come out, we were never actually "told," most of the people who know anything heard it from the select group of us who only know because our jobs were directly affected by the incident and the consequences.

My job is not secure. One day everything is fine, the next it could all be gone in the blink of an eye. They do not treat everyone the same. There are a lot of people, the pets, in my department that have committed a lot more blatantly deliberate infractions and they're still around. They get covered for, made excuses for and it all gets swept under the rug. For the rest of us, well... We just had better make sure that every single toe stays in line, or else.

In the words of a pretty funny movie that I've just seen again recently (titled: Waiting): "I can't wait to quit this job!"

And today's positive affirmation: I am choosing peace, instead of this.
