I popped in randomly last night and saw that some of the diaries I used to follow actually had recent updates.
*Refrain from posting the obligatory "Wow, this place isn't dead!" statement*
It really is too bad that online journalling fell out of vogue and that this cute little diary site has become so... vintage? Internet retro?
It was a good 20 years ago (Holy Hell!) that I taught myself some HTML to be able to change the site template for my diary, and probably a solid 16 years since I've used that knowledge to any functional degree - I couldn't do it now. The old broken lilypie trackers for my kids ages and weirdly watermarked photobucket image will just have to stay. ...at least I still like sushi... And I like the color yellow even more than I did whenever I posted this layout, so that's a win.
I don't recall paying $19 to restore either this or my older diary, but they both still show up. Another win!
In the space of time since I joined Diaryland, in or around 2003, I've had new jobs (not as many as you'd think), 3 apartments, 2 houses, birthed 2 children and watched them grow up almost fully, been married, divorced and married again, watched my stepchildren grow from teens into adults and move away, all 4 to different 4 states, grown a multitude of new gray hairs, but managed to stave off too many wrinkles for middle age... And so many things.
The days are long but the years are short. No shit...
I'll be back before another 6 years pass. This upcoming year promises to be a real doozy, and some day I might want to remember what I was thinking as the world circled the drain.
